Cold War: a state of very strong tension between the superpowers (US and Russia), where both sides had nuclear weapons, which at times they came close to using. There was also one-upmanship in space, sport, espionage, technology, propaganda...
There were also proxy wars around the world between the USSR/USA and countries allied to the other side. The conflict lasted from 1945 to 1989.
